All that was missing was the champagne.
Almost 400 residents crammed into the Port St. Lucie Community Center on Monday evening for what was likely the final big public information meeting about the Crosstown Parkway extension project.
It was a victory celebration almost 40 years in the making. As Mayor Greg Oravec reminded the crowd, the need for a third bridge across the North Fork of the St. Lucie River was first officially recognized in the city’s 1980 comprehensive plan.
