Long-awaited bridge project ahead of schedule.
PORT ST. LUCIE – The City of Port St. Lucie is proud to announce an update to the Crosstown Parkway and Bridge Project Countdown Clock. While the original anticipated bridge opening date was November 27, 2019, the contractor is preparing to open the bridge to U.S. Highway 1 two months early. The Countdown Clock has been updated on the Project website to reflect the new bridge opening date of September 28, 2019 at 4 p.m.
“City officials and residents alike have expressed a great interest in having the bridge opened as soon as possible. With great teamwork, the City, contractor and all involved are going to make this happen,” said Port St. Lucie City Manager Russ Blackburn.
The City is hosting an event for the public on September 28, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. More details on the grand opening event, dubbed the Community Celebration and Block Party, will be forthcoming during the next two months. Following the event, the bridge will be open to traffic.
The contractor will still have contract time remaining once the countdown clock runs out. Some construction activities will continue following the opening of the bridge, including activities under the bridge at Coral Reef Street. Some lane closures may be necessary, but the bridge will remain opened to traffic.
The six-lane divided highway and bridge will provide a much needed third east-west connection across the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, alleviating traffic congestion on Port St. Lucie and Prima Vista Boulevards. The project will also serve as a multi-modal transportation alternative with accommodations for automobile, bicycle, pedestrian and public transit.
